TO THE BUSH AND BEYOND
Wow, what a crazy few weeks its been for the Impi Crew. From the MTN Supersport Shootout in Ballito to the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Pitermaritzburg, we have been kept busy with some epic events! Congratulations must go to the Czech rider Jaroslav Kulhavy for winning the mens race in the MTB Marathon World Champs and to the Danish rider Annika Langvad who took the honours in the ladies race.
A big shout out must also go to the top SA riders competing in the World Champs with James Reid coming home in 17th overall in the mens category and Robyn de Groot making SA proud by finishing in 6th place in the womans. For the full list of results visit www.mtbworldchamps.co.za
We take a break now for a few weeks as we prepare for the next lineup of events on the Impi calender. First up on the 26th July is the iMfolozi MTB Challenge taking place in the iconic Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park in Northern KZN. This special event allows 300 privileged cyclists to ride 55km through the Wilderness area of the Game Reserve while raising much needed funds for the Parks conservation efforts. For more info, visit www.wildseries.co.za
Then on the 3rd August, get ready for some more MTB action as we head to the Agricultural heartland of KZN for one of the biggest races of the year, the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge. Taking place at the Eston Country Club and traversing the vast cane fields and timber plantations the area has to offer, this will be one not to miss. With the choice between a 10km, 18km, 40km and 60km ride, this one is for the whole family. Enter now at www.illovoestonmtb.co.za
Just when you thought that we couldn’t possibly have any more to offer you, we have a brand new event taking place on the 10th August. The Sandy Run is a 14km beach run/walk taking place at spring low tide. Runners and Walkers will start at the Granny Pool in Umhlanga and make their way along the beach all the way to Suncoast Casino in Durban.
